Return visit to Pikes Lane Primary School, Bolton
October 2025
Pikes Lane Primary School had a return visit by representatives of Intercity Technology to help plant more trees in the school grounds. Following on from their first planting day in 2023, pupils, staff and representatives of Intercity Technology planted the saplings to create wildlife habitats and encourage biodiversity.
“We're here today tree planting, which is one of our environmental activities that we do to give something back to the planet and to the local community. We've been tree planting now since 2021 And in that time, we've planted 800 trees at schools around the country with the help of our colleagues and lots of students along the way. We're really passionate about planting trees at schools because it helps the ecosystem it educates the students and it makes the schools a nice greener place for them to learn.”
- Christina Pendleton - Chief Sustainability Officer, Intercity Technology
The trees are all native British species, grown in the UK and include Crab Apple, Hazel, Green Beech and Hawthorn. These new saplings will provide a perfect habitat for wildlife, promoting biodiversity and preserving the natural environment. The children gained hands-on experience of how trees are planted and learned how important trees are to the world in which we live.
“We're here at Pikes Lane today planting some trees. It's my first time planting, but I've had a great day with getting to know the students, having a go at planting the trees and seeing everybody get involved.”
- Aimee McArdle - People Advisor, Intercity Technology
Intercity Technology has teamed up with Carbon Footprint as part of their carbon management programme and with Tree Appeal, planting native broadleaf trees in schools. Intercity Technology has now sponsored the planting of 400 trees at Pikes Lane, plus many hundreds more at other schools across the country, demonstrating their commitment to environmental education and their aim of reducing their impact on the natural world.
