Planting day at Hillview Primary School, Runcorn

October 2009

Hillview Primary School, Runcorn received their share of trees sponsored by Halton Lea Shopping Centre and learned about trees from David Bellamy himself.

Representatives from Halton Lea, along with Professor Bellamy and the Tree Appeal team, visited Hillview Primary School to lend a hand with the planting. The school was chosen from a group of schools in the area who have received trees sponsored by Halton Lea this year, as part of their Bee Aware environmental programme.

Halton Lea have been working the Bee Aware scheme to promote sustainability within the centre and in the local community, and have committed to planting 1000 trees in schools this year with Tree Appeal. By planting trees in schools, Halton Lea are not only creating wildlife habitat, promoting biodiversity and making a greener world, they are also providing outdoor learning resources for local school children, helping future generations to understand the natural world.

Ken Whitley, Managing Director of Tree Appeal, said, “It is the commitment and enthusiasm of organisations like Halton Lea Shopping Centre that help us to make the world a greener place. With their sponsorship of these trees, Halton Lea are giving back to the environment and to the community, and contributing to education in the Runcorn area.”
