Intercity Technology planting event at Pikes Lane Primary SchoolPlanting day at Pikes Lane Primary School, Bolton

November 2023

“We are at Pikes Lane Primary School today helping some students plant trees as part of our ESG strategy. It's really important to give back to the communities that we work in, particularly around sustainability, which is a big part of our ethos. It's really good to get students involved at an early stage... That's why we are here. We've had a really good day today and I think the students have really enjoyed it as well, which is the main thing.”
- Lewis Black, Intercity Technology

Pikes Lane Primary School was visited by representatives of Intercity Technology to help plant trees in the school grounds. Pupils, staff and representatives of Intercity Technology planted the saplings to create wildlife habitats and encourage biodiversity.

“We are at Pikes Lane Primary working with Carbon Footprint to help the children plant some trees this morning. It's been an absolutely fantastic day. It was a bit frosty to start and it was a bit hard to get into but with a bit of practice we all manaaged to plant some amazing trees!”
- Aimee Lee - Account Manager, Intercity Technology

The trees are all native British species, grown in the UK and include Crab Apple, Hazel, Green Beech and Hawthorn. These new saplings will provide a perfect habitat for wildlife, promoting biodiversity and preserving the natural environment. The children gained hands-on experience of how trees are planted and learned how important trees are to the world in which we live.

“I wanted to thank Intercity Technology for coming in today and helping with all the tree planting which is helping to bolster our Willow area. We're a school that is very new to 'Forest School' and we are trying to develop our outdoor learning area. It's really important that the kids get a chance to experience nature and develop different life skills. Where we are in Bolton we're surrounded by concrete. Pupils don't get a lot of opportunities to do that so it was really nice to see them engaged. We've had a fantastic time and I just wanted to say thank you again!”
- Gareth Higgins, PE and Outdoor Learning Specialist, Pikes Lane Primary

Intercity Technology has teamed up with Carbon Footprint as part of their carbon management programme and with Tree Appeal, planting native broadleaf trees in schools. Intercity Technology is sponsoring the planting of 200 trees at Pikes Lane, demonstrating their commitment to environmental education and their aim of reducing their impact on the natural world.
