Planting day at Cheadle Hulme School
Cheadle Hulme School students have teamed up with Wilmslow-based document management and imaging software author, Version One, to plant 340 trees in the school grounds as part of Version One’s environmental initiative, which supports the school’s commitment to green principles and its aim to reduce its carbon footprint year on year. The first of the 340 trees were planted during an official planting ceremony held at the school on 14 June 2012. This is one of the school’s largest tree plantings in recent times.
340 Blackthorn and Hawthorn trees were planted in the school grounds to create hedgerows which are particularly beneficial for the environment. This tree planting, which forms part of Version One’s environmental initiative, ties-in with the company’s development of ‘paperless office’ software. Version One has been planting trees in school grounds and sustainable forests throughout the UK since 2006 and has planted 4,657 trees to date (including the Cheadle Hulme School trees).
Greg Ford, Managing Director of Version One said, “We are 100 per cent committed to sustainability, especially as our business is focused on eliminating the use of paper within UK organisations. Working with the pupils at Cheadle Hulme School to plant 340 trees in their school grounds is a superb way for them to learn first hand how planting trees helps to positively contribute to the environment.”
Ford continued, “In partnership with Tree Appeal, we are delighted to be helping create wildlife habitats, secure biodiversity and provide an interactive environmental learning resource for pupils across the UK.”
Ann Bolton, Bursar at the school, said “Cheadle Hulme School is committed to green principles and the donation of trees from Version One will compliment our existing environmental initiatives. The school is extremely grateful for this significant contribution from Version One, which will make a long-term improvement to the grounds.”
Version One is consistently honored for its positive contributions to the environment and has recently scooped a prestigious Green IT Award 2012. Version One has also been honoured with Green Hero and Green Apple Awards from The Green Organisation and is a finalist in this year’s highly-acclaimed BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2012.
