The Vale Housing Association

The Vale Housing Association provides 'Quality Housing at Affordable Rents' to around 6300 tenants in Oxfordshire.

The Vale Housing Association is a non-profit making organisation, committed to providing quality housing at affordable rents. We took over ownership of all the Vale of White Horse District Council's 5,000 homes in 1995. Since then we have lost properties through the Right-to-buy but also built new properties to increase our stock. In April 2007 we joined the Sovereign Housing Group and as a result of this alliance our stock grew to 6,300. We are now working with Sovereign Housing Group to develop more homes. We own over one in ten of all the homes in the Vale of White Horse and are one of the ten largest businesses in the District. We have a staff of around 170 people and carried out 15,387 responsive repairs last year.

In 1998, we were the first Housing Association in the UK to achieve ISO14001 accreditation for our environmental work. Since then we have undergone six monthly checks to see whether we are continuing to meet this standard. Through our Environmental Management System we work to reduce our environmental impact in the areas of energy efficiency in our offices, energy efficiency in the homes that we manage, tenant use of transport, staff use of transport, tenants' water consumption, built environment, natural environment, waste and purchasing. You can see our Environmental Policy and Public Statement here.

Despite our efforts to reduce our environmental impact, our carbon footprint last financial year was 489 tonnes. As a step towards offsetting this, we are working with the Tree Appeal to plant 489 trees throughout schools in Oxfordshire.
